Kids With Food Allergies
November 20, 2008   Donate to KFA
When my 18 year-old son was a baby, there were few choices when it came to foods that were safe for kids with multiple food allergies. Now, thanks to a number of entrepreneurs, (many of whom are parents of kids with food allergies!) there is an increasing number of delicious and allergy-friendly foods, with new ones coming onto the market every year.

KFA has an important commitment to share new food finds with you when we learn about them. This issue's New Allergy Friendly Foods for Kids Special Report is a summary of the new products we've learned about since last spring. I hope that it's helpful to you; I wish I had something like this when my son was younger and I couldn't find much to buy for him!

Enjoy!

If you are visiting family for Thanksgiving, what do you bring for your toddler?

"This will be Maya's first thanksgiving where she can sit at the table and eat with everyone, and kind of be aware of everything. She'll be 16 mos old. I hate to bring her a hot dog while everyone is eating turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, stuffing, desserts galore. She's at the stage now where she wants everything she sees me give to her 2 y.o. brother."

Read this discussion to see how parents deal with tricky food issues at Thanksgiving for their children.

Do your non-allergic siblings follow the same diet?

"How you all handle siblings of food allergic kids? Do you have them follow the food allergic child's diet even if they are not allergic?"

Some do; some don't. It depends on a lot of factors, including ages of the children and whether the food is an essential nutritional staple.. Parents weigh in on the varied ways they approach this issue.
