WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2008 - Simmering Soup, Inc., a Cumberland, R.I., establishment, is recalling approximately 987 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken noodle products because they may contain soy, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The following products are subject to recall: [View Label, PDF Only]
12-ounce boxes of "TRADER MING'S Yakisoba Noodles with Sesame Chicken Breast." Each box bears the establishment number "P-21166" as well as a "SELL BY" date of "8/26" or earlier.

The ready-to-eat chicken noodle products were produced between July 1, 2008, and Aug. 15, 2008, and were distributed to Trader Joe's stores in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The problem was discovered by the company. FSIS has received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an allergic reaction should contact a physician.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- August 15, 2008 – The manufacturer of Publix Vanilla Wafers is recalling a limited number of 12oz boxes of Vanilla Wafers with a code date of 030409A as they may contain undeclared soy. Persons who have an allergy to soy run the risk of a serious or possible life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected product. The UPC number may be found on the side label below the Nutrition Facts panel:

The product was distributed throughout the chain to include stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

The vanilla wafers are packaged in 12 oz. paperboard boxes.

“The recall was initiated after the discovery of gingersnap cookies co-packaged with vanilla wafers. This resulted in the undeclared soy ingredient.” said Roy Peterson, Toufayan Bakery general manager. "As part of Publix commitment to food safety, they are asking customers to return the product for a full refund or replacement. There have been no reported cases of illness. The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in Grove Grow Notes brand Dried Bamboo Fungus Veiled Lady which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reaction in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.

The popcorn in these packages was incorrectly flavored with a white cheddar seasoning which includes milk ingredients; the seasoning may not be visibly apparent. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk ingredients run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

This product was distributed to and sold in Whole Foods Market retail stores in California, Arizona, Nevada, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Oregon, New Jersey, New York and Washington.

The product is sold in a blue and white 5 ounce bag with a picture of popcorn in a red and white container. The product is labeled as 365 Organic Everyday Value Organic Popcorn, Lightly Salted with a UPC of 9948240552. The recalled product's lot code is stamped on the front top right corner and reads "Sell By 10/28/08" or "Sell By 10/29/08".

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product containing milk ingredients was incorrectly packaged in bags that did not reveal the presence of milk ingredients. Subsequent investigations indicate the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the producer's packaging processes.

Soy Allergy Alert



Tyson Foods Recalls Foodservice Chicken Due to Undeclared Allergen; No reported illnesses associated with affected product


Springdale, Arkansas – August 7, 2008 – Tyson Foods, Inc., in cooperation with USDA, has voluntarily recalled 51,360 pounds of uncooked, foodservice chicken due to an undeclared soy-based allergen. There have been no reported illnesses associated with this product; however, the company has initiated the recall as a precautionary measure.



The affected products were sold to foodservice companies, which typically supply restaurants, and were not labeled for retail sale. The foodservice companies have been notified and asked to recover and hold the products further distributed to their customers until the products can be retrieved by Tyson.



Tyson has been in the process of reducing the number of allergens in the company’s foodservice products and produced some products with the old formulation while prematurely using a new label. The products were produced at the company’s Vicksburg, Mississippi, location between July 23, 2008, and August 5, 2008.



The foodservice items being recalled include:



· 10-pound cases of “Standard Quality Uncooked Fritters, Old Fashioned Chicken Breast Tenderloins.” Each box bears the case code of “2523-954” as well as a package code of 2058VIC0400 through 0423.



· 10-pound cases of “Sysco Uncooked, Fritters, Chicken Breast Tenderloins.” Each box bears the case code of “2523-895” as well as package codes of 2068VIC0408 through 0413 and 2118VIC0416 through 0421.



· 10-pound cases of “Heritage Valley Uncooked Steakhouse Chicken Breast Tenderloin Fritters.” Each box bears the case code of “2523-398” as well as package codes of 2058VIC0401 through 0415, 2068VIC0414 through 0416 and 21148VIC0411 through 0412.



· 20-pound cases of “Spare Time Uncooked Fritters, Chicken Breast Tenderloins.” Each box bears the case code of “2523-861” as well as a package code of 2058VIC0419.



· 10-pound cases of “Tyson Uncooked Chicken Breast Tenderloin Fritters.” Each box bears the code of “2989-928” as well as a package code of 2078VIC0408.



The affected products were delivered to foodservice customers in the following 29 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

People who have an allergy to milk run the risk of a serious or possible life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected products listed below.

The products were distributed throughout Wegmans Food Markets located in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland.

The sorbets are packaged in 16 oz. paperboard containers and sold in the supermarkets’ ice cream section. All four sorbet flavors: Lemon, Raspberry, Green Apple, and Pink Grapefruit, are affected by this recall. Tampico Citrus Punch

FRESNO – A Central Valley dairy issued a recall Tuesday of nearly 2,500 citrus punch bottles because some of them could contain a small amount of milk.
Producer Dairy Foods said people who are allergic or sensitive to milk risk serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if consume the product. However, there have been no reports of illnesses.

The affected batch of one-gallon Tampico Citrus Punch containers have a Sept. 17 expiration date and the Fresno plant number 06-4199 on the lower left corner of the label, the company said.
The bottles were distributed to retailers in parts of Central and Northern California.

The recalled soup may have been distributed by Kroger to Dillon stores in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Almond, Pecan and Walnut Allergy Alert

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Food maker Kraft Foods Inc. said Thursday it is recalling 12,553 cases of Post LiveActive Mixed Berry Crunch Cereal because a small number of boxes may contain tree nuts.

The company said the recalled boxes did not disclose that tree nuts, including almonds, pecans and walnuts, could be included in the cereal.

Kraft said the cereal was sold nationwide with a "best when used by" date of Dec. 17, 2008 and comes in 13-ounce retail cartons.

The company added that anyone with an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts runs the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat the cereal.

Kraft said it confirmed the presence of nuts in samples sent for testing after the company received a consumer report of an allergic reaction.

The company said it believes a small amount of granola clusters containing nuts were received from one of its suppliers.

Kraft said tree-nut allergic consumers should call 1-866-771-1511 for a full refund.
